Lyrics : A Look Back...At Last, Pt. 1

TobyMac: Boo! Bur! Hur!

The D.O.C.: Yeah!

TobyMac: Ha!

The D.O.C.: Boy!

TobyMac: Ha-ha! Boo! Bur! Hur!

The D.O.C.: Yeah!

TobyMac: I remember the summer, uh, before the record came out. We needed a song to do live. We were goin' back to Creation East and Alive and Atlanta Fest, and all those festivals, and we said, "We need something." We sorta didn't want to do the same set that we did the year before. So the first song that we had finished was "Luv Is a Verb." And I'll nеver forget, uh, ya know, that's the yеar that we actually flew in a helicopter to Creation Festival. And I remember, as the helicopter landed and we ran toward the stage outta the helicopter, and I think it was the first song of the set, was "Luv Is a Verb." And I just remember bein' nervous about how it was gonna work, and, uh, it just went over great. I mean, "Luv Is a Verb," that guitar riff kicked it off, and our set began, and there was DC Talk comin' out of a helicopter. It was definitely a special moment in our—in our history.

D**k Nelson: Take this mug for a ride!

TobyMac, Michael Tait & Kevin Max: Boo! Bur! Huh! Ha! / Down with the DC Talk / D-d-down with the DC Talk / Are you down with the DC Talk? / D-d-down with the DC Talk

TobyMac: Yo, I'm pullin' out my big black book
Kevin Max: Black book, yeah

TobyMac: 'Cause when I need a word defined, that's where I look / So I turn to the "L"'s quick, fast, in a hurry / Threw on my specs…

TobyMac & Kevin Max: Thought my vision was blurry

TobyMac: Looked again but…

Kevin Max: "Luv Is a Verb" is a, uh, is a song that I think, um, again, is a great—is a great live song, uh, for DC Talk. It's—it's more of a—a performance-based song. Um, I really think that it—it was vital to what we did in tho—in those days as a live performance piece. And, um, again, I mean, ya know, the—the—the lyrics were straight ahead, um, making a statement. It's a—it's a song that— You can't listen to it and not realize that it is a universal message for everybody to, ya know, to—to take in, to realize, just kinda like "Say the Words." I mean, it's kind of an answer to "Say the Words," really.

Kevin Max & Choir: Love is a verb / Love i—love is a verb / Love is a verb / Love is a—love is a—love is a verb / Love is a verb / Love is a verb / Love is a verb / Love is a—love is a—love is a verb
