CORRIGER LES PAROLES

Paroles : Somebody Special - Commentary

Hi, it's Nina Nesbitt here, and I wanna tell you a little bit about how my song "Somebody Special" was written.
It basically started off in Nashville, and I was on an American writing trip with one of my friends.
And I was in the middle of writing my album, and also writing for other artists.
Like their projects, or just writing a pop-y song and sending it to a DJ or whatever.

So I had this session with a guy called Daniel Muckala and a girl called Bre Kennedy.
And it was kind of a new combination for me. I was thinking, "Alright, let's write the best pop song we can write, and see how it ends up."
So yeah, I started on piano, and I had the concept already in my head of what I wanted it to be about.
And it's basically about when I got back with my ex-boyfriend, and we'd been apart for about 2 years.
And getting back together was a really unexpected, sudden thing. And yeah, I kind of was in a place where I felt quite rubbish about myself, and he, I guess, kind of picked me up and reminded me that I was alright after all.
And yeah, it's about that kind of sugarcoat feeling that you have when you first start falling in love with someone.
And anywhere you go and anything you do seems amazing, even if it's not, like even if you're just sitting in a really disgusting dive bar.
Still feels like you're up at the Ritz or something, I don't know. So yeah, it's about that.

And yeah, Dan started putting in this random acoustic guitar sample thing over the piano, and I was like, "What's that? That sounds really cool. Nuke the piano. Like let's have this on guitar." Because I feel like the album, as a whole, is very piano led and I guess the album before is very guitar-like.
So I was like, this would be a nice thing to have a little bit of the old kind of sound in there, but this is definitely also the pop-iest song in the album.
And I guess I wasn't really thinking of me when I wrote it, so I guess you can kind of hear that.
But it's still actually a really personal song on the album.

So yeah, this is definitely the pop-iest moment.
And I guess I just wanted to write a song that would make people feel good, because I feel like the rest of the album is quite sad.
So this is kind of like the turning point and the empowering moment.
Yeah, I hope you like this song, and thank you for listening!
