CORRIGER LES PAROLES

Paroles : Loyal to Me - Commentary

Hi, it's Nina Nesbitt here, and I'm gonna tell you a little bit about how my song "Loyal to Me" became a song
So I was really inspired by a lot of nineties and noughties R&B at the time
And I just kind got into it and I've gone back through the catalog
Listening to stuff like TLC, Lauren Hill, Destiny's Child
And I really wanted to write a song that sounded like that, I guess
But I never really imagined me singing it
So I was sittin' on my bed in London, with my laptop up
Just kind of trying out some melodies or some chords that I found and yeah
I just imagined it for like a girl band or something
I'm not surе who, I guess Little Mix maybe
And I had musical harmoniеs in it and stuff
Kind of started off as a bit of a joke song at first
Just a bit of fun for me on a day off
And then as I kept going, I was like, "Oh, maybe this is quite good, actually."
And it was originally called "Two Steps Back"
And the pre-chorus, the "If he never calls when he says he will" bit, was the chorus originally
I think when you're writing on your own, it's really hard to determine what part should be what
And if something's actually good or not
So I kind of just left it be for a while, and then I had a session
And they were like, "Do you have anything you've been working on?"
And I was like, "Yeah, I've been working on this, but I haven't finished it."
So I played it for them, and they were like, "Oh, this is really good, we should finish it."
So I finished the chorus in a session in London
And then I was like, "Oh, I actually really like this. I wanna keep this for myself."
So lyrically, I wrote this for one of my best friends that had just started dating a guy that she really liked
But she wasn't sure if he liked her back
Because they'd go on all these amazing dates, and he'd tell her that he really liked her and he wanted to be with her
And then she would go home and not hear for him for like a fortnight
And she was like, "Oh, he could be seeing other people."
So I said to her, "You know, you need to move away from this guy immediately. He's bad news"
He had a bit of a reputation
And yeah, it's basically about all the symptoms that come with dating what I would call a f**kboy, or a f**kgirl.
Because they're right there too
And just kinda saying, you know, if any of these things are happening
Maybe take a closer look at what's going on
But I think when you like someone it's easy to make excuses for their behavior
And, you know, kind of ignore that it's happening
So this is a song that will hopefully help people
It's like a self-help song for dating
And yeah, it's kind of the fun one on the album
So it's not to be taken too seriously, but yeah, hopefully people will like it
Thanks for listening!
